  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  • Add the chilled butter cubes to the flour mixture and rub together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  • Add 1 large egg, 1 large egg yolk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the mixture. Mix until the dough comes together to form a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • For the custard, heat the whole milk in a saucepan until almost boiling.
