Cheese Gougères - Vegetarian
Cheese Gougères are a quintessential French appetizer that brings a touch of elegance to any gathering. These delightful cheese puffs are made from choux pastry, which creates a light and airy texture with a delectable, crispy exterior. Infused with the rich flavors of Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses, each gougère bursts with a savory taste that’s impossible to resist.
Ingrédients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil over medium heat.
- Add flour to the boiling mixture all at once and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Continue to cook and stir the dough for about 2 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Stir in the grated Gruyère cheese, Parmesan cheese, nutmeg, and white pepper until well combined.
- Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip.
- Pipe small rounds (about 1 inch in diameter) onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the gougères are puffed and golden brown.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
