- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce heat to low and add flour all at once, stirring vigorously until the mixture forms a ball, about 1-2 minutes.
Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy. Stir in vanilla extract.
Spoon or pipe the dough onto the prepared baking sheet in small mounds.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Allow to cool completely.
For the filling, whip 1 cup heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
Fill the cooled profiteroles with the whipped cream.
For the chocolate sauce, heat 1/2 cup heavy cream until simmering and pour over the chocolate chips. Let sit for 2 minutes and then stir until smooth.
Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the filled profiteroles and serve immediately.
