- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 ounce unflavored gelatin
- 1 tablespoon blood orange zest
- 1/4 cup sugar (for orange syrup)
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Do not let the mixture boil.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes to bloom.
After the gelatin has bloomed, heat it gently until it is fully melted. Stir the melted gelatin into the cream mixture until well combined.
Pour the mixture into serving glasses or molds. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
While the panna cotta is setting, prepare the blood orange syrup. In a small saucepan, combine the blood orange juice, zest, and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the mixture has thickened slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
Once the panna cotta has set, pour the cooled blood orange syrup over each panna cotta just before serving.
